As some of you know from reading my book (Single, Ready & Waiting: Your Guide to Courtship) , 2005 was the worst year of my life. I lost my dreams, hopes and my purpose for living. Had I not surrendered every area of my life to God when He asked me to, I don’t believe that I would be reaping the joy, happiness, peace, favor and blessings that I am experiencing today.

Stepping Out to Try Something New
Last year, I was thinking about how I could get my book Single, Ready & Waiting out there as well as how I could motivate, encourage and empower others to do what I suggest in my book: Declare I.L.V.E. ™ (pronounced I LIVE). This includes keeping your eye’s open for opportunities to use your natural gifts and talents.
The Opportunity Came
Like Rebekah who was at the right place and at the right time when Moses’ servant went looking for a wife for Isaac I just happened to bump into the following advertisement “Marilyn Denis is looking for Real Canadian Women.” I remembered thinking. “That’s me, I”m about as real as you can get.” So without hesitation I found myself downtown for an audition.
When months had passed without hearing a word from them I assumed they found who they were looking for.
Then it happened! I got an e-mail from a Marilyn Denis staff member letting me know that I was chosen to be a part of the final top 10 women for the show.
After screaming, telling God thank you and sharing with my husband, I sat in my bed thinking…”Tanika you’re about to inspire more women.”
More “Real Women”
On Monday, Jan 7th and 8th I met the other ladies for the first time at CTV downtown, Toronto.
We got along instantly. There wasn’t a spirit of competition found amongst us; just real women who were genuinely passionate about life and happy to be there.
Our Challenges
1. One minute to change into your next outfit
My initial response to this challenge was “ I think, I could pull this off.” Oh how quickly this changed after hearing I would be going first. What? Wait a minute…lolol
I immediately began thinking about what I would take off and put on first to expedite the time.

2. Media Challenge
We were taken to another location where we met the world renowned fashion diva Jeanne Beker. Back in the day, Fashion Television was one of my favourite shows next to the Cosby’s. Never in a million years did I think Tanika would be in the same room with Jeanne let alone model and represent her new brand Edit.

Photo Shoot
Honestly, modelling is hard work. It’s not as easy as it looks. You have to know how to stand, where to put your hand, how to tilt your face and so much more.
I had so much fun with this challenge and was glad that I landed on my feet and not my face after making the BIG JUMP

Something special happened when we were getting ready for out shoot. We shared our accessories with one another to make sure that we all shined behind the camera! No hating going on here.
